Plastic Kitchen Drawers Gone Bad?
WE HAVE A SOLUTION!
PLASTIC DRAWER REPLACEMENT “KIT”:
- Cabinet Quality Drawer Box of 1/2" Baltic Birch, preassembled and prefinished. It has a minimum order of four boxes, or add a $30 handling fee per order.
- First Drawer $125
Additional Drawers $100 each for at least #2, #3, #4 even if different widths.
- Sizing: Requires client to accurately measure width and height of cabinet opening to +/-1/16" accuracy.
- New Wood box will be 1/4" less in width and 1/2"+ less in height. They come only in 1/2" increments.
- New drawer will be 18" deep front/back, same as plastic ones.
- The back of the wood drawer receives a specialty sized drawer track clip that can be used with the pre-existing plastic track still inside the cabinet.
- New special sized nylon clip for back of wood drawer to retro fit to plastic track left inside cabinet. Shipped separately for you to attach.
- The brown nylon "L" glides are for the inside of the cabinet face frame left & right for drawer to slide on.
- IF client has more than one plastic drawer, and one fails, it is strongly recommended they replace all that are used much since the rest will likely fail shortly. Plastic ages.
- Easy enough to install but clumsy. At most we advise readjustment of height of back glide might be required.
- Drawer front and handle transfer and alignment is up to the client. Generally center left/right and up/down.
- Any slide system hardware consumes space. If you want to convert to a metal side roller then you must advise us.
- IF you do not have the plastic track above the existing plastic drawer, you must advise us.
- IF you have a wheel on the back of the plastic drawer, you must advise us.
NOTICE: We have recently learned of plastic drawers that do NOT have the "C" shaped clip on the back of the drawer that fits over an "H" shaped track inside the cabinet. They have a wheel. IF SO, the same approach to replacing the drawer box is possible, but you will have to obtain a replacement metal track system with wheel for rear of the drawer. They are called either "tri rollers" or 'monorail" track systems. They are commonly available from Ace Hardware, Home Depot or Lowe's. You can obtain one that is longer than the inside depth of your cabinet (that is usually 22 1/2 - 23") and hack saw it to length. It is just more hassle to install.
